Our History

Extang was founded in 1982 by Steve Landsem, an entrepreneur with a love for trucks and a knack for innovation. As an avid outdoorsman and truck owner, Steve saw the need for more functional and protective truck bed covers. At the time, snap-on vinyl covers were the only mainstream option, leaving much to be desired in terms of convenience and weather protection.

Armed with a vision and relentless persistence, Steve pioneered the first tri-fold tonneau cover design and founded Extang to bring his innovations to life. Our early patented designs like the Trifecta and FullTilt transformed the market and raised the bar for truck bed protection.
